A Tarp Strap for Every Application

Every application that requires a tarp strap has specific demands and requirements to fulfill. At Universal Polymer & Rubber, we offer three levels of tarp straps to correspond with your specifications: GOLDLINE ®, standard mid-range line, and retail line.

Each of our tarp strap levels varies in strength and characteristics for trucking, boating, recreational outdoor pursuits, and more. A note that all tarp straps are intended for use as tension devices for tarpaulins; they are not made to bear or support weight, or be used as cargo control.

These inherent qualities make it ideal for the trucking industry, where reliability and unparalleled service are a must for heavy, long-term use.

Trucking

Standard Mid-Range Line

Transportation, marine and boating, and other applications with less stringent requirements tarp strap will find a great fit in UP&R’s mid-range line of straps.

The mid-range level of tarp straps is available in a variety of lower price points, and includes our trademarked SILVERLINE ELITE® to AMERIPRIDE® straps. They are ideally suited for moderate usage with the durability to hold tarps down without issue. UP&R mid-range straps are our more cost-effective solutions and offer great performance.

Boating/marine

Retail Line

Our retail line of tarp straps is ideal for recreational tarpaulin users. These straps are our slimmest straps and are better suited for applications that do not require heavy duty use, such as covering campfire pits or shielding boats from the elements at the dock or on open waters.

Our retail line also works well for recreational weekend expeditions or hobbies that call for a tarp, and are available at affordable price points.

AMERIPRIDE Tarp Straps Offer Sturdy Shipping Solutions

Made in the USA (Middlefield, Ohio), the latest line of tarp straps from Universal Polymer is AMERIPRIDE. Members of the trucking industry know that cargo needs to be securely fastened for successful transportation. Not only does cargo need to be transported safely, but it also needs to be protected from the elements it endures in getting to the end destination. This is where tarps and tarp straps come into play.

Tarp Strap Construction

Within the industry, tarp straps are available and manufactured in a number of solutions, including synthetic rubber and natural rubber, as well as with various hook selections to fasten the straps. The AMERIPRIDE line boasts a reliable rubber construction to face the elements while holding down your tarps. The EPDM rubber (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is a synthetic rubber that provides UV and Ozone resistance.

These UV-resistant AMERIPRIDE straps are then secured using S hooks that are manufactured in-house from wire coils, making the entire product Ohio and American-made.

Constructed to withstand multiple climates, these rubber tarp straps work well in the trucking, recreational vehicle, transportation and marine industries. These new tarp straps from Universal Polymer are found in a variety of sizes as noted below.

Help Celebrate National Manufacturing Day Friday, October 6th!

National Manufacturing Day (NMD) is an annual day of recognition for the modern manufacturing industry. Established to highlight companies in the manufacturing sector and their many accomplishments, it is also designed to inspire and help secure the next generation of American industrial creators. Those firms interested in participating may register on the official site. Once listed, individual events can be marked as public or invitation-only.

NMD initiatives include the promotion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) subjects, bridging the skills gap and reshoring of industry back to the U.S.

On Friday, Oct 6, 2017, NMD will highlight more than 2,000 American manufacturers, with many opening their doors to the public to showcase this vital sector of our economy and inspire America’s youth to pursue careers in manufacturing and engineering. Manufacturers like UP&R understand how essential it is to motivate millennials to graduate in science, technology, engineering, and math, as these graduates hold the key to future American production and innovation. Industries’ goals are to help ensure that the manufacturing industry in America will continue to not only survive, but thrive.

A couple of proudly made-in-the-USA examples from UP&R’s product line are Goldline and AMERIPRIDE Tarp Straps. These straps are used by truckers to keep their tarps securely tied down and their cargo safe from weather or any other environmental hazards.

Based in Middlefield, Ohio, our company got our start in 1970 and has been in continuous operation as a premiere custom manufacturer of rubber extrusions, plastic extrusions and rubber moldings including compression moldings, transfer moldings and injection moldings that meet the needs of our many valued customers. Top Quality Tarp Straps

The trucking industry is very important to the American economy as it allows for the easy transport of goods and materials over large distances.  To keep these items safe from weather and other environmental hazards, many trucking companies use tarps to cover the load they are hauling in their flatbeds.  A quality tarp strap is needed to keep those tarps in place, and UP&R is the place to get those straps.

The GOLDLINE ® strap from UP&R is a must have product for all road fleets.  Made in the USA in our Ohio manufacturing facility, the GOLDLINE ® strap is the number one brand of tarp straps for truckers and tarp strap users.   Composed of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber, this strap has exceptional strength, durability and resistance to environmental factors such as UV radiation and ozone.  The straps are available in sizes of 10”, 15”, 21”, 31”, and 41” and made for the transportation, recreational vehicle, and marine industries.

GOLDLINE and SILVERLINE tarp strapsUP&R also offers the SILVERLINE ® brand of tarp straps as an alternative product.  These straps are made of natural rubber and are popular in northern areas as well as Canada, because even in frigid conditions they remain flexible.  Advantages of these straps include a high initial strength and UV inhibitors, but a shorter life span than GOLDLINE ® straps.   The S hooks for both brands are also manufactured in the USA, as UP&R has the single-source, in-house manufacturing capabilities that cannot be matched by any other tarp strap manufacturer.

UP&R offers additional products including rubber tie downs, plastic pipe gaskets, and cast iron coupling gaskets.  Capabilities also include the manufacturing of rubber molded parts, rubber extruded parts and plastic extruded parts for the transportation and cargo control market, construction and pipe manufacturers market, and the automotive OE supply chain market.  Take a look at our website for all our products and services.

Misconceptions About Tarp Straps and WLL

We’d like to clear something up: our rubber tarp straps don’t have a Working Load Limit (WLL) printed on them, and they’re not supposed to. Lately we’ve been catching a lot of flack for this. Our tarp straps are used to tension covers and tarps over loads, typically loads carried by flat bed trucks. The straps keep the tarps from flapping around during transport, something that would limit both their effectiveness and their service life. A working load limit applies to the maximum cargo weight a strap can be used to restrain. The problem is that tarp straps are not cargo restraint straps. They’re designed to stretch, which—while beneficial when holding down tarps—is a serious hazard when restraining cargo.

The problem arose when overseas manufacturers started printing WLLs on their tarp straps. What makes this situation all the more baffling is that there’s no way to test the tensionality of rubber. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and ASTM International (formerly the American Society for Testing and Materials) set the standards for these tests: how they are to be operated and the standards they are to adhere to. Neither of these bodies has ever put forth a method for setting a WLL for rubber tarp straps. Compounding this is the fact that all rubber inherently wears out—a natural rubber strap that’s been under sunlight for six months will have a lower breaking point than a new strap. Even if an accurate test were developed, the results wouldn’t hold firm over time.

We understand how this problem grew out of control. If you see a safety rating on one product, you start to wonder why a similar product by a different manufacturer doesn’t have the same rating. But in this case, it’s equivalent to stating the laser intensity your bicycle helmet can withstand (and we certainly hope you ride your bike in laser-free environments). It’s frustrating to lose business over an incorrect practice, but it’s downright distressing to know that companies are selling unsafe products that have the potential to hurt a lot of people. So please, when you’re buying tarp straps, use them only to hold down tarps, for the sake of your safety and the safety of everyone on the road.
